InterAction Children's Theatre Company
Bringing History to Life
In the hands of the creative kids at Interaction Children's Theatre Company, Saint John's history isn't just interesting - its super.
The local theatre school is presenting a repeat performance of its popular Saint John History Mystery complete with an appearance by a very Saint John-specific super hero - Loyalist Man.
"Children love stories, larger than life characters, and humour," says Kate Wilcott, the theatre company's artistic a
nd executive director.
"The Saint John History Mystery has these qualities, as well as poignant scenes about the struggles many people faced to bring freedom and quality of life to our city."
The Theatre Company brings to life the folklore, legends and history of Saint John May 14th and 15th in a fast-paced, energetic and accessible production for all ages - and just in time for the City's anniversary on May 18th.
The production will tell the story of four children who discover a magical map that takes them on a journey through the historic streets of Saint John and through time.
Audiences will watch Samuel de Champlain discover, and later name, the Saint John River; see a 17th century trading post come to life and witness the strength of the "superhero" Bay of Fundy as she battles the Saint John River.
Some lucky audience members will get a chance to become a guest on the game show "I didn't know HE was from Saint John".
Written by Wilcott, the Saint John History Mystery got wonderful reviews from students and teachers when it was originally performed in June 2007.
Presented in a style that makes history fun and engaging the show will appeal to adults, history buffs and children.
Formed in 2001 as a theatre performance company for children aged 3-18, InterAction members are trained in all aspects of theatre performance, with a strong focus on creative self-expression,?self-confidence and group work.
To experience Saint John's colourful history through the eyes and performances, of our children, attend the Saint John History Mystery May 14 and 15 at the Imperial Theatre.
Wilcott, a creative dynamo, is also the artistic director for Saint John 225's free show on May 18th, entitled Making History, at Harbour Station at 7 p.m.
