About

Saint John 225

Saint John 225 is a year-long program that explores the flow of people and ideas through the city's history and culture.

loyalist_burial_groundFrom the First Nations through the French, British, Loyalists, Irish and successive waves of immigrants, many people have left their mark on the Saint John region.

Saint John 225: The Original City/La ville originale has three meanings, each representing an important aspect of Saint John.

  • It reflects Saint John's historic roots as the first incorporated city in Canada;
  • It affirms the City's role as the originator of a number of Canadian movements, organizations and entities; and,
  • It highlights that spark of creativity that ignites artists and performers to express themselves with works of great originality.

Saint John 225 has three key goals:

  • To celebrate our city's history and culture;
  • To encourage and increase participation in arts, culture and heritage programs; and,
  • To establish a legacy that will continue to honour the accomplishments of Saint John residents well past 2010.

Saint John 225 is presented by the City of Saint John and is managed by a volunteer committee.

 Mayor Ivan Court and Councillor Carl Killan represent Common Council on the committee.
